....Christmas....

           ******Christmas time *********

I can’t believe how quickly this few months has gone. First term is over and I’m half way through my first year in my university journey ;-) Looking back, it was hard to manage and organise my time with work, study and time for myself. Now, I have three weeks break for the most wonderful time of the year – Christmas!!!! I’m very excited this year because I’m going home to Poland to spend Christmas with my family. All presents are wrapped and packed in my suitcase ready for Sunday.

I would like to wish all bloggers
a very Merry Christmas and the happy New Year

Social Networking

Today, I would like to talk about the most popular social network which we use every day.  Facebook is a global social networking site introduced in 2004 and it's available in various languages and countries all over the world. It is available on laptops,  phones, tablets etc. Each user is able to create a personal profile, containing list of friends, photos and information. Facebook helps us to keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues by online posts, chatting forums or messages.  We can update our status, add comments to photos or share links.
Additionally, we can join a variety of groups, events, activities, add schools and workplace to our profile information. Facebook is a website which provides lots of games and other applications, such us daily horoscopes, photo editing, shopping offers and adverts.

From the other side, I believe that time-consumption is the one of the most common disadvantages of Facebook. It can be very addictive and time consuming in commenting, viewing other's pictures, playing games and many more.

The next of the major concern or disadvantage of Facebook is privacy.  We have to be careful not to give too much personal detail of our life, in risk of hackers stealing personal data or sending viruses and spam emails. The social network can affect our professional life. The offensive posts about employer or work colleagues can resort to unemployment.

In my opinion, Facebook has good and bad aspects, but
it is up to us to balance the impact of social networking in our life.
We are responsible for the status', comments or photos we have posted online because all this information are available for the public.

First assignment

This week, for the first time, I handed in my assignment.  We had a choice of the topics, and I decided to evaluate the key reform of the Education Reform Act 1988.

My first thoughts about it were mixed because I didn’t know where to start.  Before I started doing my research I concentrated on the title. I examined word by word to make sure that I understand the meaning of academic writing. The academic writing is very formal, the language is different from the way we speak, or the way we write to our friends.

The next step was to collect and record important information, which focus on my topic. In my research I used academic books and journals. Most of them I had from university library.
Then, I started write it down my ideas on the paper.  Each new point I started in new paragraph, which helped me to organise my work.

Slowly, slowly and my first assignment was ready !!!!

Now, I have to wait patiently  .....

to see how bad or good I done ;-)

Learning styles

In last couple of weeks on one of the modules, we have been talking about learning styles.  Learning styles are various approaches or different ways we learn. There are three basic types of learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. This is very interesting topic and if you wonder what styles of learning is more suitable for you, I prepared a few characteristics to each style, so.....have a look!

Visual learners are those who learn through seeing things. A visual learner:
  • Is good at spelling but forgets names.
  • Needs quiet study time.
  • Has to think awhile before understanding lecture.
  • Is good at spelling.
  • Likes colors and fashion.
  • Understands/likes charts.
  • Is good with sign language.

Auditory learners are those who learn best through hearing things. You may be an auditory learner if you are someone who:
  • Likes to read to self out loud.
  • Is not afraid to speak in class.
  • Is good at explaining.
  • Remembers names.
  • Notices sound effects in movies.
  • Enjoys music.
  • Is good at grammar and foreign language.
  • Reads slowly.
  • Follows spoken directions well.
  • Can't keep quiet for long periods.
  • Enjoys acting, being on stage.
  • Is good in study groups.

Kinesthetic learners
are those who learn through experiencing and doing things. You may be a kinesthetic learner if you are someone who:

  • Is good at sports, arts and dance.
  • Can't sit still for long.
  • Is not great at spelling.
  • Does not have great handwriting.
  • Likes science lab, builds models.
  • Studies with loud music on.
