Revision tips

Three weeks left until my first exam!!! I'm so stressed already but I’m trying to control my nerves  :-/ I don’t know where to start and how to get ready for this exam. English is my second language therefore I have to spend more time revising and memorising materials. In one of the study skills handbooks I have read the chapter - "Revision and Exam", and decided to share with you my revision tips.

 Revision tips for exam

         Be organise

      Prepare your notes

         Make short notes with main key points

         Read notes over and over again

        Make diagrams, tables or mind map

        Plan your revision time

        Revise with friend or colleague

        Stay healthy – drink plenty of water and have regular meals

       Make sure that you have plenty of breaks, sleep and outdoor activities

         Think and stay positive :-)

 

The Education Eye

                

 The Education Eye is a mapping innovation provided by Futurelab. The Eye is a website which provides and shares useful ideas from hundreds of websites, blogs and new sites by collecting and placing them in one website. The Eye is updated daily which provides new ideas and innovations to it. The Education Eye has a coloured coded key divided into categories which helps when searching for specific criteria. It works very easy and fast. The Eye has a search filter which helps to find the education context we are looking for.  The next positive advantage is that users can register and create their own account with lists of interests and ideas or post their innovation stories to the Education Eye. There is a variety of reflective posts about user’s education practice, relevant book’s reviews or articles. The Education Eye allows users to comment and give feedback by sending posts and email.

               This website has a huge amount of information which can be helpful in educational context. Anything that involves education policies, resources, practice or media is placed on the education eye and updated every day. This means that the top news and information can be found on one website. The education eye saves our time and checks the safety and reliability about the source the information came from.  

    From the other side, the information uploaded on this website could be incorrect or invalid in the context of educational purpose. They are based on individuals work experience and events. To use them in the professional industry we have to be more careful and double check the source and its reliability.

Fact and fiction online

     

    Today, I would like to focus on a very interesting video based on the website TED – Ideas worth spreading.                   

    Markham Nolan is a journalist and in one of his speeches he talks about fact and fiction online. It is a very interesting and fascinating video about the way to find the original source of the information posted online.  Markham Nolan in his investigation used two videos uploaded onto YouTube to find the original source and identify if it is true or fiction. YouTube became a very powerful website, on which users can upload, view or share videos. As well, it is a very helpful source for top news and crimes evidence all over the world. For journalists, there is a big amount of information, tools and tactics that can help to find the truth about top news or events. 

   

    This talk helps me to understand the power of the virtual world. Nolan gives examples of messages spread to the world about the earthquake in Managua. The first comment posted on Twitter about the earthquake took only 30 seconds to be spread all over the world, when the physical effects of earthquake take 60 second to travel. It is amazing that every second there was 58 photos uploaded on instagram and about 3,500 on to facebook.

    Personally, I have watched a variety of videos or photos uploaded online and I have questioned myself if they are real. These days with growing technology internet can also be very dangerous place with a huge amount of fake information, videos, photos, tweets etc.  It is hard to filter everything we are looking for online and be able to identify and recognise it. We have to protect ourselves from viruses, malware or fake websites by using them intelligently and safely.

           ******Christmas time *********

 

I can’t believe how quickly this few months has gone. First term is over and I’m half way through my first year in my university journey ;-) Looking back, it was hard to manage and organise my time with work, study and time for myself. Now, I have three weeks break for the most wonderful time of the year – Christmas!!!! I’m very excited this year because I’m going home to Poland to spend Christmas with my family. All presents are wrapped and packed in my suitcase ready for Sunday.
