Learning styles

In last couple of weeks on one of the modules, we have been talking about learning styles.  Learning styles are various approaches or different ways we learn. There are three basic types of learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. This is very interesting topic and if you wonder what styles of learning is more suitable for you, I prepared a few characteristics to each style, so.....have a look!

Visual learners are those who learn through seeing things. A visual learner:
  • Is good at spelling but forgets names.
  • Needs quiet study time.
  • Has to think awhile before understanding lecture.
  • Is good at spelling.
  • Likes colors and fashion.
  • Understands/likes charts.
  • Is good with sign language.

Auditory learners are those who learn best through hearing things. You may be an auditory learner if you are someone who:
  • Likes to read to self out loud.
  • Is not afraid to speak in class.
  • Is good at explaining.
  • Remembers names.
  • Notices sound effects in movies.
  • Enjoys music.
  • Is good at grammar and foreign language.
  • Reads slowly.
  • Follows spoken directions well.
  • Can't keep quiet for long periods.
  • Enjoys acting, being on stage.
  • Is good in study groups.

Kinesthetic learners
are those who learn through experiencing and doing things. You may be a kinesthetic learner if you are someone who:

  • Is good at sports, arts and dance.
  • Can't sit still for long.
  • Is not great at spelling.
  • Does not have great handwriting.
  • Likes science lab, builds models.
  • Studies with loud music on.
  • Likes adventure books, movies.
  • Likes role playing.
  • Takes breaks when studying.

Animation time!

This week’s task was to create a short animation story. To create our own animation we had to use a special online program. To create my animation I used the website www.xtranormal.com. Xtranormal is a website which helps to create an animation story movie. Xtranormal offers a collection of animation themes which will make your story more interesting.  It has a simple layout with main headlines. The process of making a movie is very simple and easy to follow. It has a clear step by step instruction guide and also offers a few account options. Everyone who would like to try to create an animation movie can open an account for free. The account offers free basic online movie maker with xtranormal desktop. However, if you would like to create an advanced animation movie, xtranormal will charge you for an Educator or a Professional account. You can save and download your animation and upload it on your blog.
I created a short movie about Henry ;-) have a look, and if you like it – go to the xtranormal website and create your unique story ;-)

Reflecting to my last week presentation I prepared couple of presentation tips for you:

·       Create interesting power point slides.
·         Write down your speech.
·         Make sure your notes are bullet points not scripted.
·         Try to record your speech and then play it back to find each bits sound weak.
·         Try to memorise your speech.
·         Make sure you have notes ready with your speech.
·         Do not read your notes, unless you have frozen.
·         Match eye contact with everyone in the room.
·         Practice in front of the mirror and your family or friends.
·        Have fun :-)
